The opportunity

I’m looking for someone exceptional to join at the very beginning and work directly alongside me.

You don’t need any media experience.

In fact, I’m much more interested in how you think, what you've built and what you've achieved than what industry you’ve worked in before.

The role will involve taking ideas from a blank sheet of paper, rapidly understanding unfamiliar markets, speaking to customers and commercial partners, testing assumptions, building business cases and turning the strongest opportunities into real businesses.

This isn't a role where you'll simply develop strategies and hand them over for someone else to execute. You'll be expected to roll up your sleeves and make things happen yourself.

What I’m looking for

  • Commercially curious: Instinctively wants to understand how an industry makes money, who buys what, what customers are worth and where companies spend to acquire them.
  • A zero-to-one builder: Enjoys starting with a blank sheet of paper, identifying opportunities and personally doing the work to turn ideas into real businesses. Doesn't stop at developing a strategy or presenting a recommendation.
  • Structured and commercially numerate: Able to enter an unfamiliar market, ask the right questions and think naturally about economics, ROI, pricing, margins and P&L.
  • Customer-discovery minded: Wants to speak to people quickly, test assumptions and learn from the market rather than over-planning.
  • Resourceful, proactive and high urgency: Doesn't wait to be told what to do next and has a strong bias towards action.
  • A builder, not a caretaker: Wants to create things from scratch, improve what already exists and leave things materially better than they found them.
  • Strong judgement with low ego: Comfortable making decisions with imperfect information, cutting through the noise and identifying what actually matters, while being equally happy to change direction when the evidence says they should.
  • Solutions-oriented: Takes ambiguous problems, gets to the bottom of them quickly and comes back with a recommendation, not just a list of questions.
  • No ego about the work: Equally comfortable thinking strategically and doing the unglamorous groundwork themselves when that's what is needed to move something forward.
  • An owner: Treats whatever they are building as their own mini business, understanding the customer, product, revenue, costs and ultimately whether it deserves to exist.

What matters most

The most important thing for me is evidence.

Lots of people can describe themselves as entrepreneurial, proactive or commercially minded.

I want to hear about the times you actually demonstrated those qualities:

  • Something you built from scratch.
  • An opportunity you spotted without being asked.
  • A completely unfamiliar problem you threw yourself into.
  • A time you spoke to customers, changed your view quickly and acted on what you learned.
  • A situation where you moved unusually fast and made something happen.

This is not a narrowly defined corporate role.

It is an opportunity to work extremely closely with a founder, learn how new businesses are built from the inside and take a huge amount of ownership from day one.

Location

London, in person.
