Job Description:

Reports To: CEO, The Pave

Location: Remote / Hybrid — with some travel to PortCos as needed

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff will serve as the CEO’s strategic right hand and operational integrator — ensuring that ideas, priorities, and growth initiatives translate into real, measurable execution across The Pave’s HoldCo and its portfolio companies.

This role is designed to help the CEO stay focused on M&A, capital raising, and strategy — while you own the coordination, tracking, and problem-solving that keeps the entire organization moving forward.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Integration and Execution

  • Drive alignment between HoldCo leadership, PortCo teams, and external partners.
  • Maintain accountability across M&A, post-close integration, systems rollouts, and revenue initiatives.
  • Run regular ops meetings: set clear agendas, track follow-ups, and remove roadblocks.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work streams for key initiatives — e.g., new estimating system, CRM buildout, or cost savings projects.

M&A & Integration Support

  • Work closely with the Corporate Development Lead to ensure deals move through the pipeline with minimal friction.
  • Help manage diligence checklists, third-party advisors, and integration task lists.
  • Track synergy targets and ensure integration playbooks are being executed at the PortCo level.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend solutions.
  • Help implement new systems, dashboards, and SOPs so performance can be tracked in real-time.
  • Coordinate offshore or contractor resources when needed to execute cost-effectively.

CEO Leverage and Communications

  • Act as the first line of triage for internal and external asks — protecting the CEO’s time and ensuring only the highest-value issues reach them.
  • Draft internal communications, investor updates, board memos, and key decks.
  • Follow up with leadership team members to ensure commitments are met.

Leadership Development & Culture

  • Be an extra set of eyes and ears across PortCos — surface issues early and maintain cultural alignment.
  • Help onboard and ramp new leaders, ensuring they understand how The Pave operates.
  • Be a trusted confidant who can challenge the team when needed.

What You Bring

  • 4–7 years of experience in operations, corporate development, or consulting — ideally with exposure to private equity, roll-ups, or multi-entity businesses.
  • A strong generalist mindset: you can connect dots across M&A, ops, systems, and people.
  • Excellent project management skills: you keep tasks moving, teams aligned, and decisions documented.
  • A bias for solving problems independently — you know when to escalate and when to figure it out yourself.
  • Strong communication skills: clear writer, confident with decks and dashboards.

What Success Looks Like

  • CEO’s time is spent on strategy and growth, not chasing daily tasks.
  • M&A deals move from sourcing to integration smoothly — synergy goals hit.
  • PortCo teams stay aligned with HoldCo playbooks and systems.
  • Weekly dashboards and ops updates are delivered on time — issues flagged early.
  • Key projects get done faster because you close loops and keep everyone accountable.

Why This Role Matters

As The Pave grows through acquisitions, complexity increases. A great Chief of Staff keeps that complexity under control — turning high-level vision into organized, repeatable execution while ensuring every person on the team stays focused on what actually drives value.
