Chief of Staff
Chief of Staff | High-Growth AI Startup | New York City
Macmillan Davies is partnering with a high-growth AI startup to appoint an exceptional Chief of Staff. This is a high-leverage, founder-facing role for someone who wants genuine exposure to how an ambitious early-stage company is built. You will operate across fundraising, strategy, go-to-market, operations, analytics, partnerships and product, working on whatever matters most to the business that week. This is not a role for someone who needs a highly defined brief or detailed instructions at every stage. It is an opportunity for an exceptionally capable, high-agency individual who thrives in ambiguity, gets to the answer quickly, and enjoys turning early ideas into scalable processes.
The opportunity
- Support fundraising activity end-to-end, including investor research, pitch-deck iterations, data-room management and follow-up coordination
- Own operational projects from problem definition through to delivery, including vendor evaluation, hiring processes and workflow design
- Analyse commercial and operational data to identify insights across lead conversion, unit economics and partner performance
- Support go-to-market initiatives, including lead generation, partnership outreach and relationship management
- Produce high-quality investor updates, internal documentation, decision briefs and external communications independently
- Build new projects and processes from scratch, then systematise, automate or transition them as the company scales
- Prioritise and execute against the most pressing business challenges, often across several workstreams in a single day
About you
- 1–3 years of experience within a top-tier consulting, investment banking, strategy or similarly demanding environment
- Strong analytical and commercial skills, with confidence in Excel or Google Sheets, financial modelling and interpreting data
- An excellent writer, able to create clear, compelling and polished communications for senior internal and external stakeholders
- Highly resourceful, proactive and comfortable making progress without waiting for perfect information
- Based in New York City, or genuinely committed to relocating for an in-person position
Useful experience
- Experience in a startup, fintech, insurtech or AI-native company
- Exposure to insurance, financial services or regulated industries
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects or external partnerships
- Familiarity with operational analysis, commercial analysis or light financial modelling
Salary
$160k to $190k plus Equity
