Status: Full Time

Compensation: $100,000 - $130,000 / Annually

Work Schedule: Hybrid : Monday - Friday (remote days confirmed upon hire)

Office Location: Manhattan , NY 10017 and occasional travel to Brooklyn, NY 11280

The mission of HousingPlus is to provide permanent, affordable housing and comprehensive services to women, including women with children, and gender expansive people to support them in overcoming poverty, homelessness, addiction, trauma and the effects of incarceration, in order to build lives of stability, and to define and realize goals for themselves and their families. Since its beginning in 2002, HousingPlus has worked to address the lack of housing and services for women who have historically been underserved and marginalized, especially women impacted by the criminal justice system, and for the past 10 years, also female Veterans. Position Summary:

HousingPlus is hiring an Chief of Staff (CSO) to join our growing company. Reporting directly to the CEO, this new position will serve as the CEO's "right hand" for internal coordination across various departments; for preparation, coordination and support with respect to HousingPlus Board of Directors; and for external relations with government officials, community and media representatives. The COS will be a key part of HousingPlus senior executive management team; and will be expected to represent the CEO's position and message for a range of settings and audiences.

The Chief of Staff to the CEO demonstrates unique blend of competencies, skills, experiences, and personal qualities to support the CEO and the organization's mission effectively. The role is deeply strategic, requiring a blend of passion, skills, and a commitment to social change, with a particular passion for the mission and work of HousingPlus. Success in a Chief of Staff role is measured by several key factors, including the successful execution of strategic initiatives, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the fostering of positive relationships across teams. A successful Chief of Staff also demonstrates strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the organization and its leadership.

Competencies/ Skills:

THOUGHT PARTNERSHIP | You will establish trusted relationships across the organization in order to effectively connect with others, identify challenges and opportunities, and support the CEO, executive team, and departments in accomplishing their goals. You share knowledge and expertise when complex problems or challenges arise, and you are able to collaborate across functions to address large, complex, and often ambiguous organizational challenges.

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS | You will support the CEO in strategic communications including developing meeting agendas, preparing presentations, and responding to emails on behalf of the CEO. You will participate in and/or lead high-stakes meetings, ensure proper follow-up and effectively manage relationships.

SPECIAL PROJECTS | You will own strategic projects of high importance to the CEO and the management team, such as special events, Board meetings, and other priorities as they arrive. You will execute high-priority, cross-functional projects, with or without direct authority.

PRIORITIZATION & ADMINISTRATION | You will work closely with the CEO to prioritize the engagement and meetings and to ensure proper preparation for all internal and external CEO engagement opportunities. Highly organized, with ability to prioritize and execute against multiple priorities on tight deadlines.

TEAM BUILDING | You will use your strategic guidance and leadership to cultivate an inclusive team environment that truly embodies HousingPlus' value. You will demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others and develop trusting relationships with senior leaders, external partners, and staff at all levels.

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP | You will focus on the daily execution of processes and the smooth functioning of HousingPlus' operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and operate with the highest integrity.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understand the fundamental roles of each HousingPlus department as part of supporting the CEO's vision for efficient and effective internal operations, including leadership, coordination and/or support for cross-departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Understand the CEO's vision and objectives for effective and efficient engagement and support for HousingPlus Board of Directors and its various committees, so that board processes, information and materials are clear, consistent and aligned towards overall board and committee goals. This includes development and fulfilment of annual and multi-year board and committee plans and objectives.
  • May Serve as CEO's representative with elected officials, government funders, community leaders and media representatives, while coordinating substance and tone of communication points with senior HousingPlus staff and other parties as needed.
  • Partner with the developmental department and prepare presentations, reports, speeches, and talking points for the CEO for internal and external audiences.
  • Support and coordinate long-range strategic planning and new program development initiatives, working in concert with the CEO, board and members of the senior executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of our core values.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent analytic, communication, presentation and coordination skills; with demonstrated ability to lead/coordinate projects involving multiple departments or stakeholders through collaboration, building consensus and working towards clear goals and objectives.
  • Experience in dealing with government officials, community representatives, media and board members to advance the goals of the organization, resolve problems, manage crises and overcome barriers to success. Ability to work as part of a comprehensive community mental health team and to represent the agency in the community.
  • Good organizational skills and administrative abilities.
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work including weekends.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to adhere to a professional code of ethics and conducts.
  • Congruence with agency mission and values.
  • High degree of confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; advance degree (Master's or PhD) in public policy, public administration or similar government or human services related field preferred.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in government and/or nonprofit services, with particular value placed on New York City-based experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
