Chief of Staff, Technical Operations
Apply for this jobContact employerJob Description:
Architect the operational engine that powers the CEO and the company.
We’re not just hiring. We’re inviting a partner.
At Demand.io, we’re restoring humanity to the heart of commerce. AI is transforming how people discover, evaluate, and purchase online—and we believe this transformation needs to be built on transparency, trust, and deeply human-centered values. We're building foundational systems like ShopGraph, the internet’s most comprehensive, verified commerce knowledge graph, and products like SimplyCodes and Product.ai—intelligent shopping agents designed to simplify decisions and save people money.
As our Chief of Staff, Technical Operations, you won’t just be tracking projects. You will be the master conductor of our company’s entire operational orchestra, ensuring our most ambitious strategic bets are translated into flawlessly executed realities. This is not a traditional administrative or business-focused Chief of Staff role; this is a deeply technical, operational, and strategic partnership with the founder.
Why this role exists
Our company runs on a unique, home-grown operating system that serves as our central nervous system for strategy, planning, and execution. As we’ve scaled, our focus has sharpened to become a delivery-centric company, with our entire team rallying around a single, coordinated master plan.
This has created a powerful new need. Our founder, Michael Quoc, currently runs this entire process. He needs a true operational partner—a right hand—to own, operate, and scale this system. We are looking for a master of process and a first-principles systems thinker who can:
- Run the entire strategic execution cadence of the company.
- Translate high-level strategy into a perfectly orchestrated, cross-functional execution plan.
- See the entire board, identify dependencies and risks before they become problems, and ensure our high-velocity team maintains its momentum without the CEO becoming the bottleneck.
You won't just be managing a process; you'll be engineering the very engine of our company's growth and providing the critical leverage that allows the founder to focus on overarching strategy, vision, and product innovation.
What you’ll do
- Architect and run the company's entire execution cadence, owning the unified timeline for all strategic initiatives, from major product launches to critical infrastructure upgrades.
- Lead the weekly strategic review and planning rhythm alongside the CEO, ensuring commitments are made, statuses are clear, and the master plan is always in lock-step with our highest priorities.
- Act as the central node connecting product, engineering, marketing, and operations, ensuring perfect alignment and awareness of cross-functional dependencies.
- Serve as the early-warning system for the company, proactively identifying, flagging, and mitigating risks to our timelines before they can slow us down.
- Continuously re-engineer our operating system for more speed and less friction, constantly improving the system to make it more efficient, intelligent, and scalable.
- Be the primary operational leverage for the CEO, absorbing complexity and providing high-signal, distilled information that enables faster and better leadership decisions.
What we're looking for
- You are a first-principles, systems thinker. Your 'product' is the process. You are energized by creating order from complexity and building engines that run flawlessly. You reinvent and simplify, you don't just import bureaucracy.
- 5–8+ years of experience in a high-leverage role such as a technical Chief of Staff, Strategic Technical Program Manager (TPM), or a founder-focused operations lead within a fast-moving, product-centric tech company.
- You don't write code, but you think in systems. You must have high technical literacy and be able to hold your own in deep architectural discussions with our Chief Architect and engineering leads about roadmaps, dependencies, APIs, and release cycles.
- Deep expertise in the product development lifecycle. You know what it takes to ship great products, from ideation to launch, and can ensure the integrity of that entire process.
- Extreme ownership and a palpable bias for action. You are proactive, self-directed, and don't wait to be told what to do. You have a proven history of creating leverage for your leaders.
- Exceptional facilitation skills and a high signal-to-noise ratio. You can command a room of senior leaders, drive conversations to clear decisions, and synthesize immense complexity into clear, actionable insights.
Compensation & Alignment
We keep things simple and transparent: you get great pay from day one, plus the opportunity to earn real upside through our unique profit-sharing model.

This is a model for founder-level operators, not just employees.
Why Demand.io is different
- Founder-owned and profitable since 2009 — no VC, long-term customer & platform focus.
- Lean and fast-moving: A small HQ team (target 30-50) driving significant GMV.
- ShopGraph: our proprietary knowledge graph powers everything we build.
- AI-native by design: you’ll work directly with top models, infrastructure, and in-house tooling.
- Outcomes > tasks: you’ll own real business results, not just process tickets.
How we work
- We operate inside a transparent, interconnected operating system where all work is visible and linked to strategy.
- Work is structured around the measurable impact you create (Outcomes), not the busywork you do (tasks).
- Everyone contributes to strategy — there’s no hierarchy, just ownership.
- We move fast, make decisions quickly, and iterate constantly.
- AI is your co-pilot: expect to use it deeply and natively.
Interested?
We know great operators aren’t always actively job hunting. If you’re intrigued, let’s talk — confidentially, casually, and founder-to-founder.
Send us:
- A portfolio or summary of work you’re proud of, focusing on systems you've built or complex projects you've managed.
- A short note on what resonated with you here.
We can go from there.
