The Chief of Staff role continues to increase in prominence all around the world, appearing in companies of allsizes and industries. Due to this company variability, the disparate backgrounds and responsibilities ofChiefs of Staff, and the relatively small number of Chiefs of Staff compared to other roles and functions,benchmarking compensation remains a daunting task.
As usual, this report exists to assist current and future Chiefs of Staff in understanding their market value and advocating for fair pay. Our research considered the specific factors that heavily impact Chief of Staff compensation, including years of experience, CoS level, company stage/size, gender, location, and more. Previous compensation data is available in our 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 reports.

Chiefs of Staff are earning more than ever.
In 2025, Chiefs of Staff remain highly compensated, with few respondents reporting low base salaries. Only 1.1% of respondents earn less than $50k.
We observe a clear upward trend in the percentage of high earners. In 2025, 23.8% of respondents report salaries above $200k (15.2% in the $200k-$250k range, 5.3% in $250k-$300k, and 3.3% in $300k+). This marks an increase compared to previous years. In the 2024 report, 20.59% of Chiefs of Staff earned over $200k &, in 2023, only 17% of respondents earned over $200k.
The average base salary has steadily climbed since 2023. The 2025 mean salary of $167,954 continues the upward trajectory seen in 2024 ($154,673), which itself was up from $131,229 in 2023.
