Duties

This position is located under the Office of Science and Technology, in Washington, District of Columbia.

This position is the Deputy Chief of Staff, GS-0301-15, located in the Office of Science and Technology, in Washington D.C. The primary purpose of this position is to represent the Bureau in negotiations with the Department of Justice (DOJ) on issues related to science and technology. Deputy Chief of Staff will facilitate and support the managerial and administrative processes and policies of OST, consistent with ATF policies, guidelines and procedures. Will be responsible for providing oversight of OST's Resource management administrative functions and budget formulation and execution while monitoring the progress of critical projects and other duties relating to project management. Additionally, will serve as acting chief in the absence of the Chief of Staff.

As Deputy Chief of Staff, GS-0301-15, typical work assignments may include:

  • Direct special projects involving complex intra- and inter-departmental coordination to negotiate and resolve program/policy differences and problems.
  • Create strategic plans that align the priorities of Office of Science and Technology with priorities and goals of an agency.
  • Oversee new approaches to reduce barriers to mission accomplishment and improvement of work methods.
  • Employ total quality service concept to establish policies, goals, and work priorities.

Qualifications

To qualify for Deputy Chief of Staff, GS-0301-15, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-14.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.

GS-15 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing all of the following duties.

Specialized Experience Needed:

  • Manage and direct the function of work to be performed; AND
  • Direct special projects and studies to resolve program/policy differences and/or problems; AND
  • Develop and approve strategic and operational plans, policies, programs, and procedures which impact key organizational activities to include budget, logistics, facilities, training, and human resources.
