ROLE SUMMARY

As an internationally recognized news media outlet, Newsweek continues to experience tremendous growth. The Chief of Staff will join at this exciting moment and will support the organization’s commitment to increased reader engagement and high impact journalism. In this newly created position, the Chief of Staff will serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the CEO, Dev Pragad. The Chief of Staff will be responsible for the successful outcome of the CEO’s strategic priorities. The Chief of Staff will also play a critical role in accelerating the organization’s data-driven culture through business analysis and technology.

Close working relationships include: the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer, the Global Editor in-Chief, the Chief Content and Strategy Officer along with many senior leaders and other influential constituents. This role is for a strategic and innovative individual who thrives in a fast-paced and high growth environment. The Chief of Staff has the following primary responsibilities:

IMPLEMENT THE CEO’S VISION THROUGH GOAL SETTING AND EXECUTION

  • Serve as a strategic collaborator for the CEO; assist in brainstorming, design, and execution of new initiatives
  • Create short- and long- term plans with a focus on key outcomes; set and track target deadlines and milestones
  • Provide status updates, briefings, and reports to CEO and senior leadership; inform stakeholders of current progress and priorities
  • Proactively identify challenges; provide and implement solutions to meet quality, financial, and scheduling requirements
  • Ensure meaningful follow-up and completion of action items; delegate tasks and projects to individuals best positioned to complete them

FACILITATE EFFICIENT AND INFORMED DECISION MAKING FOR THE CEO

  • Conduct thorough business research and analysis using data and technology
  • Optimize daily operations to streamline decision-making and information flow
  • Rationalize the CEO’s time and inputs to ensure the CEO is working on the most essential projects
  • Review key deliverables on behalf of the CEO, including scopes of work, business plans, presentations, and agreements
  • Generate and evaluate solutions, often without prompting from the CEO or others; determine appropriate timing and level of involvement of key stakeholders

ENSURE ALIGNMENT AND COHESION WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE ORGANIZATION

  • Partner with executive leadership team to implement and maintain OKR framework; monitor progress against key initiatives and report findings
  • Connect the dots across internal teams by collaborating with senior leaders on a variety of projects
  • Identify and implement new systems and processes to improve cross-functional collaboration and communication
  • Communicate the CEO’s position on key topics and initiatives; attend meetings on his behalf as appropriate
  • Prepare meeting agenda and presentations, keep meeting minutes, and track action items

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years of professional experience, including a minimum of five years partnering with senior level executives
  • Demonstrated success and strong understanding of business fundamentals with an emphasis on data and analytics
  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Experience with goal setting best practices, specifically OKRs, preferred
  • Exceptional project management skills with excellent attention to detail and superb written and oral communication
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational efficiency
  • Proven capability to exercise discretion, build credibility, and maintain trust with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to approach a variety of topics and issues with an objective, journalistic mindset
  • Capacity to thrive in a highly productive, commercial, results-oriented environment
  • Desire to play a key role in an iconic, dynamic, and growing company
  • Ability to work in an office environment, specifically at Newsweek’s headquarters, located at One World Trade Center
