The Role
The Chief of Staff (COS) is the CEO’s right hand and execution partner, responsible for turning strategy into results. This role is central to how the executive team operates — driving initiatives, ensuring accountability, and keeping the CEO focused on the highest-value work.
We’re looking for someone fast-paced, assertive, and comfortable managing up, down, and across. You need to thrive in ambiguity, bring urgency to execution, and have the judgment to know when to act on behalf of the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Strategic Direction – Serve as the operational owner of the company’s annual goals and key initiatives. Ensure strategic priorities are clearly defined, communicated, and tracked across the org. Work with the CEO and executive team to align on direction, pressure test priorities, and maintain momentum throughout the year. Maintain and communicate progress through tracking of metrics.
- Run the Executive Rhythm – Lead weekly leadership and department meetings (L10s), monthly reviews, and quarterly planning. Ensure meetings are efficient, data is accurate, and follow-ups are clear and assigned.
- Be the CEO’s Proxy – Represent the CEO in meetings when needed. Translate high-level direction into concrete next steps for teams. Keep a pulse on cross-functional alignment.
- Drive Communication – Build content for town halls, quarterly updates, board materials, and internal leadership comms. Make sure the right message gets to the right people at the right time.
- Enforce Accountability – Ensure leaders deliver on commitments. When the CEO makes a commitment or a leader makes one to the CEO, you track and follow through.
- Special Operations – Step into ambiguous situations, take on projects with no clear owner, and ensure execution doesn’t stall out.
- CEO Support (as needed) – Partner with the EA to prioritize the CEO’s time. Occasionally screen candidates, coordinate investor prep, or attend events on their behalf.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred
- 5+ years of professional experience in strategy, operations, consulting, or similar
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, experience in Notion, Salesforce, and Metabase preferred
- Strong business acumen, excellent judgment, and high standards for clarity and follow-through
- Comfortable owning multiple workstreams in a high-accountability environment
- Trusted to handle highly confidential information with integrity
- Prior Chief of Staff experience not required
- Extra points if you reference this last bullet in your first interview with the CEO
