Job Description

Summary

Yelp is seeking a Director, Business Operations who is an accomplished people leader with expertise in operational excellence, project management, and data reporting to join our People Operations organization. This pivotal role will directly support the Chief People Officer (CPO) and work collaboratively with the senior-level People Leadership Team (PLT) to drive the execution of agreed strategic priorities. The individual will lead projects/initiatives from conception to completion, engage and collaborate with various internal stakeholders, connect, optimize and drive visibility of the work across the People Operations org and serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner. This individual will partner with the CPO on crafting compelling narratives that are leveraged within quarterly business reviews and Board of Director presentations.

Additionally, the Director, Business Operations will lead two critical functions within the People organization: People Reporting & Analytics and Project Management. This position is ideal for a leader who thinks strategically and makes connections to the bigger picture, while comfortably attending to details required for successful execution in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

What You'll Do

Strategic Support for CPO

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Chief People Officer providing strategic support, thought leadership, critical analyses, and insights to aid in decision-making.
  • Assist in the development of high-impact, compelling presentations for quarterly operations reviews with C-Suite level executives and Board of Directors meetings. Ensure the timely preparation of CPO for key internal or external engagements, tapping relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Coordinate collaboration on behalf of the CPO to optimize time and communications across the People Ops team, Executive Leadership, and the broader organization as appropriate.
  • Lead the coordination of resource management for the People department, including annual planning process and managing the People Operations roadmap.
  • Respectfully influence, motivate, negotiate, collaborate and partner with multiple stakeholders across all levels of authority and leadership to create and execute on projects and coherent action plans.
  • Align PLT activities and meeting agendas with business and HR priorities, collaborating with PLT members to prioritize discussion topics, coordinating participation from key stakeholders, attending meetings, capturing minutes / action items.

Project Management

  • Lead and develop the Project Management team, including monitoring initiatives to ensure timely, accurate and successful completion. Identify measures for success and drive for results in each project or initiative while also assessing and reporting on progress and impact to People leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Accountable to execute specific initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders; ensuring business processes conform to the organization's long-term business strategy and collaborating with different departments so processes work in harmony. Oversee a team that supports these initiatives.
  • Competently grasp People priorities and impacts across functions, driving a clear understanding of work, level of effort, and complexity. Align and communicate various projects timelines, dependencies, and risks to broader PLT.

People Reporting & Analytics

  • Lead and develop the People Reporting & Analytics team to execute a comprehensive People reporting & analytics strategy aligned with the organization's people and business objectives. This includes responsibility for Employee listening strategy and execution.
  • Ensure the delivery of insightful, data-driven analyses to support People Operations strategies and decisions in addition to supporting the broader org with reporting, dashboard building, and analysis of People data.
  • Support the People Leadership Team to identify business challenges; use fact-based solutions and data analysis to help influence changes to operations, process or programs; and champion a movement to an organizational ‘Lead with Data' mindset.
  • Develop and maintain a solid framework for data management, reporting and analytics to monitor current and expected performance of People effectiveness; in support of People Operations stakeholders and broader Yelp business goals/objectives.

Planning and Operational Excellence

  • Engage in strategic planning, understanding business needs of both the People organization and Yelp related to core staffing, employee engagement, and operations efficiency. This includes championing the annual planning process.
  • Identify trends and concerns within the People department, assessing the stability and sustainability of current People processes and optimizing them as needed.
  • In partnership with People Leadership and Finance Partners, manage, track, and provide guidance on budget and critical financials.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a strategic role within HR or People Operations, with at least 3 years responsible for developing capabilities in others.
  • Proven track record of leading data analytics and project management functions.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights. Comfortable with new technologies and tools.
  • Strong leadership, team management and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience developing compelling storylines and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Is flexible with a growth mindset.
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous environment.
  • Deep understanding of HR processes and best practices.

  • Compensation range for this position is $144,000 - $269,000 annually. You may also be offered a bonus and benefits.
