The JDRF T1D Fund (T1DF) is seeking a Chief of Staff (CoS) to be based in Boston.

The CoS will support the T1DF’s Managing Directors in helping implement the overall strategy and manage operations as T1DF continues to experience significant growth.

As a member of T1DF’s leadership team with the Managing Directors, the CoS will lead operations, support the implementation of strategic initiatives, facilitate T1DF board interactions, coordinate activities with the parent organization (JDRF International) and act as the primary point of contact for T1DF Donors.

The CoS operational oversight will include coordinating portfolio management activities, communications, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.

The CoS will supervise and mentor the individual responsible for T1DF’s day-to-day operations. In addition, the CoS will regularly interact with T1DF investment professionals, T1DF’s board, and other staff within the JDRF International.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role will require a highly resourceful and motivated individual with a strategy implementation background, gravitas, and proven analytical skills.

It is expected that the CoS will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between the Managing Directors and internal deal teams to ensure effective communication and process management.
  • Coordinate and interact with the T1DF’s board of directors and board committees.
  • Ensure that the T1DF is well-informed and up to date with respect to the macroenvironment (venture capital, public biotech markets, T1D and biopharmaceutical sector).
  • While this position does not have direct deal responsibility, the CoS will Ensure consistent best practices by deal teams with respect to sourcing, due-diligence, negotiation, documentation of investments, and post-investment portfolio management.
  • Support staff development, building and maintaining T1D-specific expertise, and creating a positive work culture resulting in successful T1DF Staff recruitment, retention, development, and promotion.
  • Ensure high-quality interactions and provide clear, consistent communications and processes with internal and external constituents, including the JDRFI staff, the Helmsley Charitable Trust, and other strategic partners and syndicate members.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will evidence the following professional competencies and personal characteristics:

  • Ideally, seven-plus years professional experience.
  • Proven experience in a strategic or senior executive support role.
  • Prior program / project management experience, or a management consulting background.
  • Strong business acumen combined with unquestionable integrity, dependability, and ethics with a penchant for delivering the highest quality output with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous situations and capable of adjusting to changes in the internal or external environment.
  • Relationship-building skills to connect with individuals in T1DF and external stakeholders; leadership skills to manage teams, inspire others, delegate responsibility, and provide guidance.
  • Ability to work in teams and exhibit leadership in a dynamic, start-up environment. Must be able to pro-actively prioritize competing demands and deliver high-quality results.
  • Highly developed communications skills (written/verbal) and interpersonal savvy.
  • Experience within venture or private equity is not a requirement but would be a plus.
  • Experience in the drug development process including pre-clinical, clinical, and U.S. and E.U. regulatory processes is not a requirement but would be a plus.

EDUCATION

Candidate must possess an undergraduate degree; an advanced business degree (MBA) is a positive.
