You do not need to be an expert in blockchain to be qualified for this role. As long as you are excited to learn, this role could be an excellent fit.
Co-founder Bart Decrem lives in Palo Alto, while co-founder Mark Mayo is based in Vancouver. In an ideal world, this person would live near one of those two areas, but that is not a requirement by any means. This person will have a travel budget and will be expected to travel to meet the co-founders about once a month.
This is a well-compensated role with a significant equity component, given that this person will be one of the company’s first employees.
Block::Block believes in building a diverse and inclusive team. It's how we will win the future together.
Block::Block is led by Bart Decrem and Mark Mayo.
Early in his career, Bart headed marketing and business affairs at Mozilla, where he helped launch Firefox 1.0. Later, Bart founded Tapulous, one of the first iPhone startups and the company behind Tap Tap Revenge, one of the first major game hits on the App Store. Tapulous was acquired by Walt Disney, which Bart then joined to run smartphone games. Bart has shipped a record 25 #1 App Store hits, and well over 1B app downloads. After leaving Disney, Bart returned to Mozilla, where he co-founded the Mozilla Builders incubator. Bart left Mozilla to start Block::Block this March.
Before founding Block::Block, Mark served as the Chief Product Officer for Mozilla and steward of Firefox for the Quantum launch. Before that, Mark was the CTO for cloud computing pioneer Joyent (containers and node.js) and the technical co-founder at multiple early startups.
Block::Block is an extremely early-stage lab. In March of this year, Bart and Mark left Mozilla to get back to building. They were both interested in blockchain and the world of smart contracts, and started the lab to prototype ideas and figure out what they want to build in this space.
Block::Block has raised several million dollars from an impressive group of investors including Mozilla, Marc Benioff, Patrick Lee (co-founder, Rotten Tomatoes), Kevin Lin (co-founder, Twitch) and Kun Gao (co-founder, Crunchyroll).

Together, Bart and Mark bring an incredible amount of operating experience and success at recognizing when an idea can become something huge.
Now, they are looking for a Chief of Staff. The role will be defined in more detail to match the candidate’s unique backgrounds and interests. Bart and Mark envision the Chief of Staff will play a “producer”/product manager role for new projects and organize and execute across different domains -- i.e. making sure scope and outcomes are defined, the contributors are on the same page (design, web UI, business logic), and timelines and costs are being managed.
The Chief of Staff will likely also noodle with the founders and other team members and explore new ideas. More generally, they envision the Chief of Staff will be a full thought partner. Bart and Mark have been around for a long time, so they are looking for someone very connected to 2021 who can help bring that perspective to the team--someone who lives on TikTok and sees new trends as they emerge.
Every day, you’ll be managing some sort of project, and seeing if it gathers or loses heat over time. Your goal will be to move the company forward a bit each day.
Some backgrounds that could be a good fit:

Smart Contracts programmer who wants to be on the cutting edge of figuring out what’s next
Product person who loves shipping new products
Someone who has been immersed in the world of blockchain for the past few years
Someone who is just dipping their toes into blockchain and wants to dive in headfirst
