About the job

Chief of Staff | Nightingale Health

Full-Time | Remote | New York City

About Nightingale Health

Our vision is to enable every older adult to live a full, independent life, with dignity and honor. To this end, we are building the best-in-class social care coordination platform for health plans to improve utilization, delivery, and management of their Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) services. We are fully backed by AlleyCorp, the preeminent VC firm in New York.

About AlleyCorp

AlleyCorp founds and funds transformative companies from its base in New York City, partnering with determined early-stage entrepreneurs who know the future is just beginning. AlleyCorp companies have collectively raised more than $2B in venture capital and employ thousands of people in New York City and beyond.

The AlleyCorp Healthcare Fund is one of the most active early-stage venture funds and incubators in New York dedicated to healthcare. It is a physician-led fund within the broader AlleyCorp umbrella. It invests its own internal capital so its values and success are fully aligned with its companies, not outside LPs. They build companies that share its mission to dramatically improve healthcare across cost, quality, and access.

The Role

We are seeking a Chief of Staff to help shape and guide the company at its earliest stages of development. This is an unparalleled opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the founding executive team, and operate at the highest levels of business strategy, operations, and sales/development within a company that is poised to rapidly scale.

As Chief of Staff, you will be providing expanded capacity to the President. You will be empowered to own and drive internal and external facing projects that are critical to our growth and success. You will build and be relied upon to sustain key relationships both within and outside of the company, with senior leaders and representatives pivotal to the success of our business objectives and vision. Most importantly, this role will expect to evolve along with the growth of the company, and you will likely be asked to transition to a senior leadership role with ownership of a domain area.

The role will work with and report directly to the Co-Founder and President, remotely.

Who You Are

We are seeking nothing short of a superstar, but one who is grounded by a core set of values, remains humble, and works amazingly well both in team and individual settings.

You will be perfect for this role if you have a demonstrable track record of structured problem-solving, deep analytical skills, outcome-oriented team execution, attention to the smallest details, and can communicate clearly and concisely with executive presence.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Driving execution of actions and top priorities of the executive team.
  • End-to-end ownership of operational and planning processes, in partnership with the executive team, and continuously pushing the company’s operating cadence to ensure forward momentum at all times. In other words, ensuring important balls do not get dropped.
  • Supporting the productivity of the executive team by owning the planning, agenda, notes, and action items of regular company and key external meetings.
  • Creating structure and focus for sometimes ambiguous initiatives being explored by the executive team, and providing recommendations for action/next steps in a timely manner.
  • Always operating at a tactical, strategic, and operational level. This includes managing projects or ideas that do not often fit neatly into the organizational structure of the company, or falls between departments or areas of leadership responsibility, and asking “so what” to ensure every idea or initiative is tied to an intended outcome.
  • Having your ears to the ground and on the pulse of the company, and proactively raising priorities, questions, and/or concerns for the focus of the executive team.

Qualifications We’re Seeking

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a high-performance organization, working on results-driven analyses in a collaborative environment. Experience in a top-tier management consulting firm or investment banking is a plus.
  • Undergraduate degree in business, liberal arts, math, computer science, engineering, sciences, or any related field. Post-graduate degree is a plus. In lieu of a degree, experience starting your own company will be considered.
  • Thoughtful collaborator, able to manage multiple demanding stakeholders, assimilate complex information quickly, and scope work in a way that balances deep insight and fast turnaround.
  • Track record of driving complex projects and achieving results in the face of ambiguity.
  • Strong experience with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word) or Apple equivalents, and/or Google Workspace/G Suite. Experience with financial modeling is a plus.
  • Analytical, quick learner with a willingness to think deeply about complicated problems and suggest tactical solutions.
  • Experience in market research and analysis that informs project selection and business cases is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in the healthcare industry (e.g., payer, provider) and/or sales is a plus.

Personal Characteristics

  • Highly organized, energetic operator and self-starter with strong tolerance for ambiguity and complexity.
  • High EQ and strong interpersonal/diplomatic skills applicable to a wide range of scenarios and stakeholders is a must.
  • Ability to manage and gently, but effectively, influence across all levels and functions of an organization.
  • At ease with working on time-sensitive projects and/or tasks, and rapidly shifting priorities.
  • A creative thinker and doer, not afraid to respectively challenge the status quo, regardless of seniority - no matter how often it takes.
  • A patient, servant leader attitude - with no job that is neither too big nor too small.
  • Mature judgment and discretion at all times.

We Are a Proud Equal Opportunity Employer

COVID-19 and the Future of Work

We are a remote-first company, headquartered in New York City. As we transition to a post-pandemic world, we are committed to continue working and collaborating remotely.

As conditions allow – prioritizing the health and wellbeing of the team – we aim to gradually offer hybrid, optional in-person meetings and events, when appropriate.
