InGenius Prep ( was founded nine years ago by three law students at Yale and Harvard. In that time, the company has grown to a team of nearly 175 full-time employees, 500 part-time employees, as well as twenty locations in the U.S., Canada, China, Korea, and more. Today, InGenius is partnered with Sterling Partners, a private equity group with extensive experience in the international education space.

Our focus is primarily admissions - helping students prepare and apply for high school, colleges, graduate schools, and certain careers. The "mission" of the company is to take the various industries that serve "admissions" - test prep, tutoring, admissions consulting - and combine them to form a holistic service that drives the best outcomes in the holistic admissions processes.

Job Description:

The Chief of Staff will work extensively and directly with the Company CEO, Joel Butterly. The objective is to spend 2-3 years working closely alongside our CEO before transitioning to another executive role in our company or into one of the Sterling Partners/Avathon Capital portfolio companies.

The primary mission of this role is to significantly expand on the functions the CEO currently serves, mostly centered on company direction/strategy and expansion. Specifically:

  1. Business development and M&A;
  2. Geographic expansion domestically and internationally;
  3. New product development/implementation;
  4. Business strategy
  5. Helping "close" sales/partnerships as needed, and assisting new BD/Sales staff with additional training
  6. Some recruitment/hiring for highly specialized roles

This role definitely includes some travel (several days a month), and can include significant international travel if desired. Likely there is a trip a month, for 3-4 days, mostly in the US, and then 1-2 international trips a year (ex - Vietnam, India, Singapore, New Zealand, etc.).

  • Must have strong educational credentials.
  • Meaningful experience either as a founder of a startup or in business development and sales. You should be capable of setting up new partners/regions on your own within a few months of starting.
  • Management experience preferred
  • Prior experience in the education industry is a big plus, international education a bigger plus.
